The major streets are Springfield Ave. and South Orange Avenue. The branch is located across the street from the New Horizon Charter School. The branch lies within easy walking distance of University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, a post office, and a new social security building. A new mega high school is under construction at Market Street and is also within walking distance of the library. The branch is located in a residential area with close proximity to 17 schools that include elementary, private, charter and high schools. There is no on-site parking. Street parking is available on Hayes Street and 14th Avenue, with the exception of Monday and Tuesday when there is one-side parking due to street cleaning. Click here for a local map. Bus Routes #1 stops at 15th Ave, & Bedford St. #25 stops at Springfield Ave. & Hayes St. #1, #25 stop at Springfield Ave. & Irvine Turner Blvd. Handicapped Access In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the branch is handicapped accessible. History The original branch opened in 1923. The branch was closed for renovation and ground-breaking began on November 10, 1988. The completed building was reopened on September 18, 1989. For Young Adults Fiction, non-fiction, and paperback books Books for high school assignments and papers There are free college prep classes for high school students on Wednesday evenings at 5:00 pm during the school year.
