How Do I Get an Item the Library Doesn't Own?

If you need an item that the library doesn't own, you can request that we borrow it for you from another library.

Interlibrary Services

Contact Interlibrary Services by phone at 973-733-7767 or by email at ils@npl.org and they will attempt to locate the item and request it for you. Interlibrary Services will notify you when the item is ready to be picked up.

JerseyCat

Search JerseyCat to find another New Jersey library that owns the item. You can place your request directly through the JerseyCat system. If another library agrees to lend it, we will contact you when your item is ready to be picked up.

Ask Us to Purchase It

You may suggest an item for the library to purchase. A librarian will review your request and decide whether the purchase is appropriate for the library's collection. However, an item purchased may take anywhere from several weeks to several months to process.
