Special Collections Information Files Newark Public Library Special Collections Division The Newark Public Library's Special Collections Division has many unique files on artists from 19th and 20th century. The files contain such items as: news clippings, articles from various art magazines and journals, brochures and flyers from exhibitions and events, pamphlets, and reproduced images. Over the last 50 years, staff from the Library's Special Collections, Reference, and New Jersey Information divisions have continued to add to these files. Below are descriptions of the various files. Each provides information about which library department to contact for access to the individual artist files. The Artists Information Files are a large collection of news clippings, articles from various art magazines and journals, brochures and flyers from artist's exhibitions and events, published pamphlets on the artist, and reproduced images involving various world artists over the centuries who work in a variety of media. The files have been collected by the Reference and Special Collections staff over the last 50 years and are still maintained and added to. For artists associated with New Jersey, consult the New Jersey Artists Information Files in the Charles F. Cummings New Jersey Information Center. The Cartoonists Information Files contain a variety of information on artists who drew and developed animated shows, movies and features over the last century as well as those artists who developed sketches for comic strips, comic books and political cartoons. The files include material collected by the Reference and Special collections staff over the last 50 years and include items such as news clippings, articles from various art magazines and journals, brochures and flyers of events, reproduced images and pamphlets published about the artist. The Designers Information Files contain a variety of information on artists who designed room interiors, clothing, theatrical stage sets, movie productions, and other visual art forms largely from the 19th and 20th centuries. The files include material collected by the Reference and Special collections staff over the last 50 years and include items such as news clippings, articles from various art magazines and journals, brochures and flyers of events, reproduced images and pamphlets published about the artist. The Engravers Information Files contain a variety of information on artists who worked in this printmaking medium, where the design is cut into a large, flat surface of metal, wood or other material. The files are grouped by American and European artists, and include material collected by the Reference and Special collections staff. The files include such items as news clippings, articles from various art magazines and journals, brochures and flyers of events, reproduced images, and pamphlets published about the artist. Lithographers Information Files The Lithographers Information Files contain a variety of information on artists who used this printmaking method from the late 18th century to the present. The files include material collected by the Reference and Special collections staff over the last 50 years, and include items such as news clippings, articles from various art magazines and journals, brochures and flyers from artist's exhibitions and events, reproduced images and pamphlets published about the artist. The Sculptors Information Files contain a variety of information on artists who sculpted in stone, metal, and with other materials from ancient times to the present. The files include material collected over the last 50 years by the Reference and the Special Collections staff. Still maintained and added to, the files contain such items as news clippings, articles from various art magazines and journals, brochures and flyers from artist's exhibitions and events, reproduced images, exhibit labels from Newark Public Library exhibits involving the artist, and pamphlets published about the artist.
