The Newark Public Library has received a $305,694 grant from the PNC Foundation to support financial education for preschoolers. Through its signature cause, Grow Up Great, PNC has created a multi-year, $350 million initiative to enhance early childhood education and school readiness. The library will reach out to 7,500 preschool children in Newark by December 2012 through the following programs:PNC Grow Up Great Financial Education Story Times
Class visits to local preschool and daycares to provide children ages 3–5 with story times and interactive activities focused on program themes of saving, spending, and sharing. Some story times will be bilingual English/Spanish presentations. Every child will receive a PNC Grow Up Great kit and 3 plastic jars to encourage saving, sharing, and spending.To arrange a preschool or daycare story time visit, please call 973–645–5258.
PNC Grow Up Great Family Financial FairsThe library will organize five PNC Grow Up Great Family Financial Fairs hosted throughout the City of Newark, one in each ward.
PNC Grow Up Great Performances for Families
Performances, showcasing financial education for preschoolers, will be hosted at all Newark Public Library locations. The 27 programs will be appropriate for children and their families.
PNC Grow Up Great Financial Education Collection
Each Newark Public Library location will have a collection of bilingual books and other materials focused on financial concepts for preschoolers and their families.
