The Newark Public Library and the three-time Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils invite all children in grades 1 through 8 who live or
attend school in Newark to create their own hockey story, real or imagined.
Children may participate according to their grade level: grades 1-3, 4-6, 7-8.
Prizes will be awarded to the top winner in each grade category. All stories must be
written by the child on the official “Hockey Story” booklet and submitted to any one
of the Newark Public Library’s Children’s Rooms. The deadline for entries has been extended to Friday, January 12, 2007.
Complete guidelines are available in each Children’s Room.
Newark Hockey Arena Model Tour
A model of the Newark Hockey Arena will be traveling through the branch libraries. On Wednesday of each stop, the tour will offer information for children 10-12 years old, grades 4-6, by having a hockey seminar entitled "Hockey Basics: What’s It All About." The seminar will introduce children to hockey in an easy, fun and hands-on way by having a "Show and Tell" with hockey equipment and gear and conclude with a "question and answer" segment. Click here to find out when the arena model will be at your branch.
