On July 29, 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the Space Act, creating the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Over the last fifty years NASA has sent manned missions into orbit around the Earth and to land on the moon. It has increased our knowledge of the solar system and the universe beyond through the use of space probes and space telescopes.
This exhibit highlights some of NASA's major achievements, such as the moon landing, the Space Shuttle and the Hubble Telescope.
One case of the exhibit is devoted to astronauts from New Jersey. The exhibit features a selection of NASA posters and documents from the Library's government documents collection, and models and an actual meteorite from the collections of the Newark Museum.
