Sports fans—celebrate the beginning of a new baseball season by visiting the Main Library and taking in our latest exhibition: The Revival of Professional Baseball in New Jersey. This historical and entertaining show will feature baseball in Newark, Jersey City, and Paterson. Co-curated by librarian James Lewis of the Charles F. Cummings New Jersey Information Center and Bob Golon, author of No Minor Accomplishment: The Revival of New Jersey Professional Baseball, it will be on view in the second-floor gallery from April 13 through June 27, 2009.

Fans of all ages will learn about Newark's first professional team, the Newark Peppers of the Federal League, while taking a nostalgic look at the glory years of Newark baseball.

Contemporary Garden State-based teams of the Atlantic League, Can-Am League, Eastern League, and South Atlantic League will also be covered in dramatic photographs and memorabilia. In addition to materials from the collections of the Newark Public Library's Charles F. Cummings New Jersey Information Center, items have been loaned and donated from the following: the Newark Bears, the Lakewood BlueClaws, the Sussex Skyhawks, the New Jersey Jackals, and the New Jersey Room of the Jersey City Free Public Library.

Before you catch a game, stop by the Library and learn about the sport that has amused and amazed New Jerseyans for well over a century.
