Photos from Librarian, Historian, Teacher, Friend -- Charles F. Cummings Charles F. Cummings, Assistant Director of Special Collections and Statewide Outreach, passed away on December 21 after a brief illness. A valued employee since joining the Newark Public Library on July 15, 1963, he was recognized as the Newark City Historian. These photos are from The Newark Public Library celebration of Mr. Cummings' life.
Speakers Trish Morris-Yamba, the president of the Library's Board of Trustees, welcomed the audience to the celebration.
Colleagues and friends paid tribute and shared their memories of Mr. Cummings, his long career at the Library and his role as Newark city historian.
Tributes Tributes to Mr. Cummings included an adaptation of W.H. Auden's poem Funeral Blues by Elizabeth DelTufo, music sung by the Newark Boys Chorus, and a plaque and renaming of the New Jersey Information Center in honor of Mr. Cummings.
