Photos from the 2006 Reception and Book Signing for Remembering Newark's Greeks
A reception and book signing were held on November 30, 2006 at Snuffy's Pantagis Renaissance in Scotch Plains to celebrate the publication of Remembering Newark's Greeks: An American Odyssey by Angelique Lampros. The book had its genesis in a 2002 exhibit at the Library, which was co-curated by Angelique Lampros and Peter Markos with the assistance of Charles F. Cummings, then Director for Special Collections and Statewide Outreach, Newark Public Library, and Newark City Historian.
The narrative, together with the illustrations and captions, provides a history of the odyssey and becomes the thread that interweaves the stories told by the voices and images of Newark’s Greeks. It features factual information along with the commonality of experiences among the represented families. The written and oral interviews of witnesses, and the photographs, documents, and memorabilia from the exhibit have now become a comprehensive chronicle of the Greek ethnic presence in Newark’s history. The event was attended by many in the Greek and greater Newark community. Click here to order a copy of the book.
