"Newark Hockey Arena Model Tour" will make eight stops at The Newark Public Library The three-time Stanley Cup Champion New Jersey Devils and The Newark Public Library are inviting the residents of Newark to come, see and share in the New Jersey Devils/Newark Arena Model Tour that will have eight stops at various branch locations of the library. Each of Newark’s five wards is represented on the tour. The hockey arena model will be on view during library hours. The dates (exclusive of November 7, 11, and 23, when the library is closed for the respective holiday) and locations are:
In addition to demonstrating the New Jersey Devils’ support of the Newark community and its children—through education, sport and the arts—on Wednesday of each stop, the tour in the Newark Public Library facilities will offer information for children 10-12 years old, grades 4-6, by having a hockey seminar entitled "Hockey Basics: What’s It All About." The seminar will introduce children to hockey in an easy, fun and hands-on way by having a "Show and Tell" with hockey equipment and gear and conclude with a "question and answer" segment. To help promote "hockey readiness" in Newark’s youngsters, The Newark Public Library systemwide has invited all children, who live or go to school in Newark in grades 1 through 8, to create their own hockey story, real or imagined, using 200 words or fewer, with the theme "Newark, Hockey and Me." The hockey story can be a play, a poem, a story, a diary or a wordless story of pictures or photographs promoting the relationship among the New Jersey Devils, the Newark community, and the kids themselves. Children may participate according to their grade level: grades 1 to 3, 4 to 6, 7 and 8. Prizes will be awarded to the top winner in each grade category. All stories must be written on the official "Hockey Story" booklet, available at any Newark Public Library location, by the child and submitted to any one of The Newark Public Library’s Children’s Rooms by Saturday, December 9, 2006. Complete guidelines are available in each Children’s Room. For more information on the "Newark Arena Model Tour," call any of The Newark Public Library's participating locations on the tour. |
