The Newark Public Library, 5 Washington Street, announced it has rescheduled the Family Week at the Theatre event at its Van Buren branch library. The branch, which is located at 140 Van Buren Street, will now present Peacemaker by David Holman on Saturday, March 31 at 11:00 am.

This George Street Playhouse production, which is recommended for ages 7 and up, tells of the Blues and the Reds who have lived on either side of the Wall for decades. Interaction is forbidden, and both communities live in an atmosphere of fear, suspicion, and mistrust. But when Simp, a curious young Red, meets a Blue for the first time, they learn they have a great deal to offer one another, and an unexpected friendship blossoms.

Peacemaker has always been a joyful experience for the students and teachers alike. This 35-minute play is immediately followed by a 25-minute workshop, in which the teaching artists discuss the themes of the play with age-appropriate activities. Encouraging audience participation, Peacemaker is a charming parable of an increasingly diverse society, promoting an end to prejudice based on what people look like or where they come from.

For more information on this free event, patrons are invited to call the Van Buren branch library at 973-733-7750.
