To celebrate the accomplishments and honor the exceptional readers from this summer's Prudential Foundation Summer Reading Challenge, The Newark Public Library held an awards ceremony on Saturday, August 19, 2006 in Centennial Hall at the Main Library.

Young readers, who all read a minimum of five books during the challenge, attended to receive their certificates of achievement in reading, as well as additional prizes for the top readers at each branch.

Winners of the Summer Reading Challenge poster contest were also awarded special ribbons for their artistic achievement.

The Newark Bears baseball team generously provided family tickets to a Bears game to all the readers who read 200 books over the course of the challenge.
