Library announces winners of bookmark contest
Press
Release March 28, 2001
The Newark Public Library held a bookmark-creating contest during last November’s National Children’s Book Week. Thanks to a $1200 grant from the Friends of The Newark Public Library, the top three bookmark designs have been printed in full color. The bookmarks will be distributed to patrons--free of charge--at all library children’s rooms during National Library Week, April 1-7.
"In addition to the honor of having their bookmarks printed professionally," said Michele Cappetta, library youth services coordinator, "the three winners also received a book." All entrants received a library water bottle.
The three winners were:
-
First prize: Choose a book from the tree of knowledge, designed by Janice Delaney, an eighth-grader at Oliver Street School and patron of the Van Buren branch library.
- Second prize: Begin Life With A Book, designed by Michelle Amador, a tenth-grader at Arts High School and patron of the Van Buren branch.
- Third prize: Read, designed by Santiago Paniagua, a fifth-grader at New Horizon School and patron of the Springfield branch library.
The three winning bookmarks, plus a selection of other entries, may also be viewed by clicking on the Kids’ Place website found on The Newark Public Library’s home page (www.npl.org), then selecting In the Spotlight.
