Library offers free computer classes

The Newark Public Library has announced its schedule of free computer classes for the month of November. Highlighting the schedule are ones on “Word Processing for Seniors,” “Webwise (for Kids!)” and “Business on the Web.” The classes will be held in the Technology Training Center, which is located on the third floor of the main library, 5 Washington Street. Registration is required for each class, since seating is limited to ten participants. Following is the list of classes, some of which have prerequisites. Those offered in Spanish follow the English listing.
Point and click with greater ease. Learn the proper way to hold the mouse device. Practice moving and clicking on selected text. Use drop down menus and scroll bars. This class is essential for first-time computer users.

Word Processing I
Create, open, save, close, preview and print lists, letters, and other documents. Learn basic formatting, including font selection, numbering and underlining. Typing skills are required.

Word Processing II
Learn how to make changes to an existing document by using formatting features for the page and paragraph. Change views and toolbars. Experience with Microsoft Word is a prerequisite.

Introduction to Résumé Writing
Produce your own résumé and cover letter in the standard format of your choice. Experience using a mouse and typing skills are required. Please bring a 3½-inch floppy disk with you to this class.

Children in grades 4-5 and their caretakers are invited to learn tips and tricks for searching the Internet, to find both entertaining and informative sites. Covered, too, will be guidelines for safe surfing.

If you are a senior citizen and would like to learn how to type a letter, résumé, or other document and save it to a disk, please join us for this class.
