HOORAY FOR CHILDREN" BEGINS ITS 31st YEAR AT THE NEWARK PUBLIC LIBRARY

Hooray for Children, the ever-popular series of live programs from The Newark Public Library, begins its thirty-first year on October 26. The live programs, which run through May of 2003, feature quality performances by puppeteers, storytellers, magicians, and theater groups.

"The programs are held on Saturdays to enable the entire family to attend," explains Michele Cappetta, the library's youth services coordinator. "And they begin promptly at two o'clock."

Following are the programs for the remainder of 2002:

October 26; 2pm; Fourth Floor Auditorium
"Eerie Tales" presented by Mary Rachel Platt
People in all parts of the world are fascinated with the supernatural and Halloween! Join international storyteller Mary Rachel Platt for an afternoon of thrills and chills as she weaves a web of spine-tingling tales from many cultures and mysterious lands filled with ghosts, shape shifters and other worldly creatures.

November 9, 2pm; Centennial Hall
"Multicultural Concert" presented by Patricia Shih
Come celebrate the world's similarities and honor its differences with award-winning singer-songwriter, Patricia Shih, as she presents a concert that is a delectable smorgasbord of languages and cultures.

December 7; 2pm; Fourth Floor Auditorium
"The Animals' Christmas" and "The Gingerbread Boy" presented by The Happy Times Children's Theatre
Celebrate the holidays with these two favorite tales that will inspire families to share the joys and experience the spirit of the season.
