Library holds two health programs in June
Press Release 6/1/2000
The Newark Public Library will hold health programs at the Clinton and First Avenue branches the beginning of June. A
$500,000 grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York is enabling the library to present an ambitious schedule of
branch-based free public programs known as CHIP: community health information project. These activities are all part of
"Branch 2000," a city-sponsored branch renovation project to enhance and physically rehabilitate the ten-branch system.
On Tuesday, June 6, the Clinton branch will host a "Health Screening" program, from 1:30pm to 3:00pm. Interfaith Health
Services, Inc. will provide free "screenings" of blood pressure, sugar diabetes, cholesterol, and weight. The Clinton branch library is
located at 739 Bergen Street; its phone number is (973) 733-7757.
The First Avenue branch program is entitled "HIV/AIDS Awareness." Tobi Mosley will present the program on June 7,
beginning 5pm. Ms. Mosley is Director of Women's Health for ENCOREplus at the YWCA of Montclair-South Essex.
She has given numerous presentations on health-related issues to women. The First Avenue branch is located at 282 First
Avenue; its phone number is 733-8091.
For more information about CHIP programs, patrons also may call Mrs. Mabel Spradley-Williams at 733-7735.
