March 6, 2007
One of the most critical partnerships between the Newark Public Schools (NPS) and the Library is Learning About Myself and My World: Kindergarten and Pre-K Extended Classroom Experiences. This half-day, NPS-funded program introduces these students to the Library. It features a storytime, video and interactive activities centered on themes that connect with the curriculum. The children also register for their first NPL card. When leaving the Library, every child receives a book bag, a bookmark and stickers, and a paperback book to begin his/her own book collection. Ms. Valentin, First Avenue School teacher, said, "The children look forward to the extended classroom experience of visiting the library. The program adds to their love for reading and helps them to be independent readers."
