Programs abound in March at the Library
Press Release February 28, 2002

The Newark Public Library will hold a number of programs during March, many of which will be held at various branch libraries. All programs are free and open to the public.

Highlighting the month’s calendar is a Women’s History Month event on March 12. Elizabeth Vrato, author of THE COUNSELORS: Conversations With 18 Courageous Women Who Have Changed the World, will appear in Centennial Hall of the main library, 5 Washington Street, beginning 6pm. She will be accompanied by Elaine R. Jones, president of the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, one of the women Ms. Vrato interviewed and wrote of in her book.

In addition to the programs, two exhibitions are on view at the main library:

  • People and Portraits in Prints and Posters (second-floor gallery, from March 10 through May 10, 2002)
  • Where, When and Who Took That Photograph? (third-floor gallery, March 11 through May 18, 2002)

2 Fifth Annual AT&T Family Week at the Theatre will feature Peacemaker, a George Street Playhouse Production, produced by the New Jersey Theatre Alliance. Centennial Hall, 2pm. Call (973) 733-3610 for reservations.

6 Frances E.W. Harper Literary Society will celebrate Women’s History Month with a discussion of A’Lelia Bundles’ On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C.J. Walker. James Brown African-American Room, 6:30pm.

6 Explore the positives and the negatives of electricity, the sub-zero temperatures f liquid nitrogen air pressure and the states of matter with various thrilling and chilling experiments in Science Circus, a special Liberty Science Center program. Springfield branch library, 50 Hayes Street, 3:30pm.

9 AT&T Fifth Annual Family Week at the Theatre presents the Pushcart Players’ Dear America. Van Buren branch library, 140 Van Buren Street, 10am. Call (973) 733-7750 for reservations.

9 AT&T Fifth Annual Family Week at the Theatre presents Paul Robeson Through His Words and Music. Springfield branch library, 50 Hayes Street, Noon. Call (973) 733-7736 for reservations.

Roseville branch library, 99 Fifth Street, 3:30pm.

16 Hooray for Children program series presents "The Magic Rabbit Review" with Bob Conrad. Meet Henry, the mischievous rabbit puppet, and his friends in this special magic show filled with color, excitement, music and fun. Auditorium, 2pm.
