The Newark Public Library held a special bear cub mascot-naming contest for its new "Kids’
Place" Web site. The panel of judges, headed by Michele Cappetta, youth services coordinator, has
selected the winning entry from more than one thousand suggestions. The winner was Jessica Silva, who
chose the name Corky.
Jessica is a patron of the Van Buren branch library. She is eleven years old and a seventh-grade student
at Wilson Avenue School. Her winning prize was a Barnes and Noble gift certificate and a replica
"Corky" Beanie Baby.
Patrons may visit Corky by accessing the library's home page at www.npl.org and clicking-on
"Kids' Place." The site features numerous items of interest for children, including Kids'
