Baldwin's Harlem: A Biography of James Baldwin combines biographical research with astute literary criticism, revealing Baldwin's association with Harlem on both metaphorical and realistic levels.
Author Herb Boyd is a journalist, activist, and professor of African and African American history at the College of New Rochelle and City College New York. He has published 18 books, including Brotherman: The Odyssey of Black Men in America, An Anthology, which earned a 1995 American Book Award for nonfiction. Among his popular books are Black Panthers for Beginners; Autobiography of a People: Three Centuries of African American History Told by Those Who Lived It; Race and Resistance: African Americans in the Twenty-First Century; and Pound for Pound: A Biography of Sugar Ray Robinson.
