Patents and Trademarks on the Internet

In addition to finding information about U.S. Patents and Trademarks in the weekly Official Gazette of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on file at the Main Library, you now can "surf the net" to see if your invention is new, or if a business/product name you want to use already is in use.

Patents from January 1, 1976, to "today" can be searched on the Internet at www.uspto.gov/ web/menu/pats.html. IBM also offers a free Web site that has the full text of patents for the last 23 years:

www.patents.ibm.com/ibm.html.

Trademarks are on the Web at www.uspto.gov/tmdb/index.html.
