The Director's JournalIn ten years of writing these columns, I have never been so saddened as I am in writing this one; for I must report the untimely death of one of our Trustees, Deputy Mayor Angelo Cortinas. Mr. Cortinas was the alternate to Mayor Sharpe James. Although Mr. Cortinas served on the Library Board for only a short time, he played an active role at every meeting he attended. We miss him not only as a colleague and gifted public servant but as a friend. The Mayor has appointed Dolores Henry Metz to succeed Mr. Cortinas as his alternate. He has also appointed Frank Salsano to the Board. We are pleased to welcome them both. While in office, Mr. Cortinasalong with the entire Municipal Councilworked diligently on our system-wide Branch Library revitalization project. I am pleased to tell you that the Madison storefront Branch Library has been refurbished, and the full-scale renovation of the Vailsburg Branch is about to begin. Future issues of The Second Century will keep you informed about Vailsburgs progress. |
