Friends grants top $14,000
Friends install new officers
Friends set dates for Book Sale; need volunteers

Friends grants top $14,000
The Friends bestowed more than $14,000 in grants to the
Library during 1999. These grants supported unparalleled
programming and enabled the Library to enhance collections. Some
of the projects continue into 2000.
- $1,000 for materials on career and job information
- $750 for the purchase of the eight-volume Encyclopedia of
Popular Music
- $2,000 for two series of Internet training classesWebrowse
for children and their caregivers, and SeniorSurf
for senior citizens
- $1,500 for the preservation of Newark city directories
- $1,000 for the mounting of a wildlife print art
exhibition
- $2,450 for the purchase of the Encyclopedia of Aesthetics,
the Encyclopedia of the Essay, the Encyclopedia of
Folklore and other reference works
- $1,500 for the mounting of the 333rd Anniversary of
Newark exhibition
- $500 for the purchase of a button maker
- $1,500 for the purchase of television/VCR unit for the
Central Library Childrens Room
- $830 for purchase of a speakers podium at the North
End branch
- $1,000 annual contribution to the John T. Cunningham
Endowment for New Jersey history materials
