Library revives Lorraine Hansberry Lecture Series |
Treasures of the LibraryIn this installment of a continuing series of articles on the Librarys treasures, our focus is on Juanita Egoavil, Branch Manager, a staff member for more than twelve years. Juanita is a native Newarker and a graduate of Lafayette Elementary School and East Side High School. As a city resident and a Latina, she has a special knack for relating to the patrons at the First Avenue branchher neighbors. She has set service standards for the patrons. In addition to helping initiate improvements to the facility and its collections, Juanita is especially proud that attendance is up significantly and circulation has increased by more than forty percent in the last year.
Beginning her career with the Library as a junior clerk at the North End branch, Juanita worked at several other branches before becoming Branch Manager at First Avenue in September of 1999. She feels strongly about the Library as a setting for learning. Juanita put her beliefs into practice by studying word processing at the American Business Institute and earning certification in a legal secretary program at the North Ward Cultural Center.
