The Director's Journal As reported in the front-page article, The Newark Public Library was elated to receive a challenge grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) in Washington. Faced with declining revenues, the City cannot continue to support the variety of multi-cultural programs which have become a trademark of the Library: humanities-based programs such as African-American History Month, the International Film Festival, Hispanic Heritage Month, and the International Cultural Festival. Consequently, the $150,000 award is vital. The Library must, however, raise $300,000 to receive the total grant. Again, we are appealing to the community to help provide the necessary funding. Your generosity will enable the Library to continue programming and remain a cultural anchor for the community. To contribute your valuable support, call the Development Department at (973) 733-7793, or write them in care of The Newark Public Library, 5 Washington Street, Newark, NJ 07102. |
