As part of its "Children's Book Week" celebration last November, the Library invited children to create books and enter them in the Library's annual contest. The books were judged according the child's grade levelpre-K to grade 3, and grades 4 through 8by Carol T. Jenkins, graphic artist, coordinator of the Entrepreneur Club for East Orange, and former instructor at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts. Prizes were awarded to the top three winners and honorable mentions in each group. The first-place winners received special children's books and personal stereo cassette players courtesy of Panasonic Corporation. All participants received colorful "Reading Is Out of This World" theme bookmarks. Winning entries in the pre-K to grade 3 category were: ·1st PlaceA Fun Day at the Circus by Ana Espinal ·2nd PlaceThe Rabbit Who Ran Away by Timmy Murphy ·3rd PlaceThe Thanksgiving Dinner by Dana Carr ·Honorable mentions: The Trip to Atlantic City by Noel Maldonado, The Flying People by Shelbi-Kaye Wallace, and My Adventure With Santa Claus by Stephanie Gonzalez.
