E-mail: the answer to the 64,000 questions
The Newark Public Library staff answered more than 425,000 reference questions last year. That's a twenty-percent increase as compared with five years ago. While most questions are from patrons visiting the Library, more than 64,000 questions are fielded via the telephone. In response to this deluge of reference requests, the Library has added another new way to access information services: e-mail. "With e-mail reference," explained Dr. Alex Boyd, Library Director, "we have extended the scope of our service beyond the city and state, to a national and even international audience." The new edition of the Library's Web site provides access to this much-used electronic-mail service for your reference questions. Just click on "contact us" on our home page www.npl.org any time, any day, and "ask" your question. Responses are provided via e-mail, telephone, or mail. Be sure to provide us with a "vehicle" for responding. |
