Prudential again sponsors Summer Reading Challenge
The Prudential Foundation again has provided the generous funding to sponsor the Library's premier reading and literacy program for Newark's school children, grades pre-K through 8. The theme for this year's Prudential Foundation Summer Reading Challenge is READiscover The World. More than 6,500 Newark children, ages three to fourteen, have participated in the last six years. The Challenge begins June 22 and runs through August 21. Special events! The festive program officially kicks off with a fun-filled rally featuringentertainment and a picnic lunch. The date and location are yet to be determined. Please contact any Children's Room for this information. Win prizes! Have fun! The Challenge rewards children with prizes tied to their achievements. Each child will receive a READiscover The World poster, bookmark, and reading log. Those who read and report on at least five books will receive prizes and achievement certificates. The top winners will receive Panasonic personal audio equipment. Special prizes will be awarded to the winners in each of the three divisionspre-K through K, grades 1 through 3, and grades 4 through 8who do the best job of coloring their program posters. Sign up for this popular program at the Children's Room in the Main Library or any of the Branches. More Summer Fun! In addition to the Challenge, other daily activitiesmovies, arts and crafts, gameswill be held in the Main and Branch Libraries' Children's Rooms. Activities and times vary, so check with each location for its schedule. |
