New Jersey Citizen Action Free Tax Preparation

Free income tax preparation services for taxpayers who are eligible for the EITC.You may still receive FREE tax filing assistance with NJCA if your household income is less than $50,000. Call the number below for more information or an appointment. Walk-ins also accepted.

  • Photo IDs
  • Social Security Cards (or ITINs) for everyone listed on the return.
  • All W-2 and 1099 forms.
  • List of childcare expensesincluding childcare agency's tax ID number, if claiming childcare expenses.
  • Voided checkfor direct deposit.
  • Both spouses must be presentif filing jointly.
  • If married filing separately, tax filer must provide spouse's social security number.

Newark Now/VITA Free Tax Assistance

Free income tax preparation services are available to New Jersey families and individuals who earned less than $58,000.

State of New Jersey

The New Jersey regional tax office in Newark is providing assistance for taxpayers who need help filing their state returns online only. The regional office is accepting appointments on a walk-in basis. Taxpayers should bring a completed copy of their federal return, along with all of their tax documents (W-2s, SSN, ITIN, identification, SSNs of dependents, etc.)

Federal tax forms and instructions are available in the lobby of the Main Library and at all branch libraries.

They are also available at the regional tax center at:

State

The New Jersey Division of Taxation is no longer providing paper copies of its forms to libraries for distribution. If you need copies, visit their Web site to download printable copies of forms and instructions.

You can also go to the state's regional office in Newark to get one copy of any form and instructions. The regional office in Newark is located at:
