Computers and Internet

Computers and Internet access are available in the children's rooms at all library locations for children in grades K-8. Word processing for grades K-8 is also available on the computers in the Main Library children's room.

Students need to sign up for computer use. Each child may use the computer for 30 minutes. After their session is over, they may wait a half hour and sign up for a second session.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to monitor their child's Internet use.

Getting a Library Card

A Newark Public Library card is free for children who live or go to school in Newark, and may be used at Main Library or any of our seven branches. Children will receive their library card on the day they apply if a parent or guardian is with them, and shows identification with a home address. Otherwise, the library card will be mailed to the child's parents. Library cards are valid for one year.

Check-out Information

Children may check out books, magazines, CDs, and audiocassettes for 14 days. If materials are returned late, the fine is 5 cents per day per book, 30 cents per day per CD, and $1.00 per day per DVD.

Children may also check out movies on their library card. Movies are lent for 7 days. If they are returned late, the fine is $2.00 per day per item. Parents may also request that their children not be allowed to borrow movies.

Programs at the Library

All library-sponsored programs are free and open to the public.
