Newark Public Library and IDT Corporation announce “IDT Reading Rewards” program
Press Release October 6, 2000

The Newark Public and IDT Corporation have joined together to promote the benefits of library services. Howard Jonas, founder and CEO of IDT, made the announcement at today’s press conference at the library.

The promotion, known as IDT Reading Rewards, runs through December 31, 2000, and offers adults a free $10 prepaid IDT calling card by either:
1. Registering (for the first time) for a new Newark Public Library card, or
2. Checking out three books on their existing card.

IDT is a leading facilities-based multinational carrier that combines its position as an international telecommunications operator with its experience as an Internet service provider to offer a broad range of telecommunications services to its wholesale and retail consumers worldwide. Through its own telecommunications backbone and network infrastructure, IDT provides its customers with integrated and competitively priced international and domestic long distance, prepaid calling cards, Internet access and Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) service.

Howard Jonas said, “Libraries are essential to our information age. This exciting partnership with the library is an excellent opportunity to offer to the neighborhoods of Newark both traditional and technology-based library services.”

The Newark Public Library has a tradition of providing collections and cultural programs for the diverse community of Newark. Dr. Alex Boyd, library director, described the cooperative effort with IDT as “two agencies in the information field working together for the betterment of our community.”

Historically, the month of September has been “Library Card Sign-up Month.” Anyone who lives, works, or attends school in Newark is eligible for a free library card. The yearly sign-up effort results in several hundred new patrons. “This special promotion with IDT,” Dr. Boyd predicted, “should increase significantly the new cardholders who will register in the weeks ahead.”

Complete “IDT Reading Rewards” program details are available at all library circulation desks.
