Branch Libraries continue Saturday programs for children

As part of the initiative that reopened The Newark Public Library’s branches on Saturdays, the branches continue to feature special children’s events and educational programs.

Funding for Saturday programs was part of an initial $230,000 commitment from the Newark Public Schools. This support enabled the Library to purchase curriculum-related books and other instructional materials to help students meet elevated core curriculum requirements. The Newark Public Schools has granted an additional $175,000 for 1999. (A $180,000 Prudential Foundation grant provided for the Saturday staffing and proper operation of these libraries through the end of 1998; a City appropriation is bugeted for 1999.)
