Friends schedule Dana Lecture

The Friends of The Newark Public Library have set Thursday, May 14, as the date for the John Cotton Dana Distinguished Lecture. Barbara J. Kukla, editor of the Star-Ledger’s NEWARK THIS WEEK section since its inception in 1979, has been selected to present the lecture. She has received numerous professional awards and community service honors.

The event will be held in Centennial Hall, beginning at 6 p.m. More information—including instructions for securing tickets—will be provided in the Spring issue of The Second Century.

This lecture is delivered each year by Newarkers who have distinguished themselves in the State or nation. Previous lecturers have been Amiri Baraka, noted literary figure and community activist; Samuel C. Miller, retired director of The Newark Museum; Richard Wesley, political playwright and Hollywood screenwriter; Peter Rodino, a former Congressman; and Philip Roth, acclaimed novelist.
