Library reopens Van Buren Branch

More than 150 persons overflowed the new Community Meeting Room for the November 19 gala reception, which officially reopened the Van Buren Branch Library. The event marked the fourth branch library to undergo complete renovation and expansion. The other three are Springfield, Weequahic, and North End.

In his remarks, Dr. Alex Boyd, Library Director, said: “It is upon this foundation of spirit and support that we will continue to renovate the branch libraries and thus build a rich information environment and future for all of us. The next one scheduled for total revitalization is the Vailsburg Branch.”
The Library received a brass plaque from Johnson Jones, the project’s architectural firm, to commemorate the November 19 grand reopening of the renovated Van Buren Branch Library. Pictured are Dr. Alex Boyd, Library Director; Albert Coutinho, Secretary, Library Trustees; Betty S. Rufalo, Library Trustee; and Philip A. LiVecchi, Alternate Trustee for Mayor Sharpe James.
The Library hosted a “Weequahic High School Homecoming” on September 26. More than 300 enthusiastic alums attended the festive event. Pictured are Dr. Alex Boyd, Library Director; Carolyn Bross; and Sheldon Bross, one of the homecoming’s organizers and a member of the Library’s Executive Development Council. The Homecoming Committee presented the Library with a generous check during the recent reopening celebration of the Van Buren Branch Library.
