Treasures of the Library

Our focus in this installment of a continuing series of articles on the Library’s treasures is on Juan Enrique Cintrón, who joined the Library in May of 1993 as a member of the Main Library’s Sala Hispanoamericana staff.

Juan is responsible for collection development, reference and reader’s advisory services. He conducts Library tours and leads student orientations and class visits. Since the opening of the Public Technology Center, he has been conducting Computer Literacy and Internet Navigation workshops in Spanish. For the last eight months, Juan has been doing extensive research and working closely with Alma Concep-ción, curator of this year’s Hispanic Heritage Celebration exhibition.

In May, he was awarded the “José Enrique Rodó Plaque,” presented by the Association of Latin American Writers and Journalists, in recognition of his excellent work serving the Hispanic community.

Juan was born in Guayama, Puerto Rico. He pursued undergraduate studies at the Catholic University of Puerto Rico, and he managed the first cooperative bookstore established in Puerto Rico. During the past 23 years, he has worked—one way or another—with books, literature, and education.
