About the Branch
The North End Branch Library is located at the corner of Summer and Grafton Avenues, two blocks east of Mt. Prospect Avenue or one block west of Broadway and approximately four blocks south of the Newark/Belleville border.
Originally erected in 1930, to serve the growing population of Newark’s North Ward, the North End branch was closed for renovation in October of 1992. The collection was warehoused and the building renovated to include a parking lot, an addition to the rear of the building, Americans with Disabilities Act compliance, including an exterior ramp and an elevator to all levels of the building, a community meeting room, and a story “pit” in the Children’s Room. Provisions were also made to allow for computer technology. The completed building was reopened on December 15, 1994.
