Tuesday, November 12, 2019 | 6:00-8:00 PM
The Newark Public Library, Centennial Hall | 5 Washington Street, Newark, NJ 07102
Please join us Tuesday, November 12, 2019, for an author talk and book signing.
Neal Stoffers, a retired Newark fire captain, has written a book about a fascinating but little known aspect of New Jersey history. An exploration of the state’s first Chinese immigrant community, the book is adapted from Stoffers’ Seton Hall Master’s thesis.
From 1870 to 1886, James Hervey’s laundry in present-day North Arlington employed more than 60 Chinese immigrant laborers. These men formed the center of Chinese immigrant life in northern New Jersey at the time.
Books will be available for sale the evening of the event.
