Harriet Tubman Monument: Sound Booth Launch and Reception
Nina Cooke John and her team invite you to join her at the Newark Public Library (main branch) and contribute to the making of the monument, through the launch of the project’s sound booth and a hands-on tile workshop. Participants will be asked to record their stories of freedom and liberation in a private sound booth and etch onto wet clay. The audio recordings will become a part of the listening experience for everyone visiting the Monument and the mosaic tiles will be incorporated into the monument’s ground and wall surfaces. This will not be a static statue of a woman but a dynamic multi-sensory space that encourages engagement, reflection, and learning.
