Spanish settlers who made their livelihood through the cultivation of small plantations in the highlands of Puerto Rico are known as \u201cj\u00edbaros<\/em>\u201d or country folk. J\u00edbaro <\/em>music has its roots in the musical forms that came to the island from Spain during the time of colonization and settlement. In it you can hear the influence of eight centuries of Arab domination in Spain, as well as the legacy of the Ta\u00edno, the island\u2019s native people. Rub\u00e9n Figueroa and Conjunto Ritmo Tropical<\/strong> bring an \u201corquesta j\u00edbara<\/em>\u201d to the Library this fall. Bring your family, your maracas, g\u00fciros, and bongos, and enjoy a gran fiesta j\u00edbara<\/em>.<\/p>\n
