The Puerto Rican Day Parade of Newark, NJ in partnership with the Newark Public Library presents the exhibit We Are Still Here: Ta\u00edno Survival and Identity<\/strong>. Through historic artifacts and contemporary art, the exhibit celebrates the survival of the Ta\u00ednos, the indigenous people of the Caribbean, and their culture in the Caribbean and U.S. diaspora. We Are Still Here<\/strong> was curated by Sonia Vera and Jaim\u00ed Kaur\u00edx Rodr\u00edguez.<\/p>\n

The opening reception at the Main Library, 5 Washington Street, will feature a ceremonial dance, presentations, and a book signing.<\/p>\n

• \u201cTa\u00edno Culture: Survival and Identity in Cuba,\u201d Jos\u00e9 Hatuey Barreiro, Ph.D., member of the Ta\u00edno Nation of the Antilles, Scholar Emeritus, Smithsonian Institution<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

  Following the presentations, there will be a Q and A session, and a book signing by Dr. Barreiro.<\/p>\n

  The exhibition will be on view during regular Library hours, Monday through Saturday, from September 10 to October 31, 2017. Group visits and more details are available by calling La Sala Hispanoamericana at the Library at 973-733-7772. The exhibit is part of Latino Celebration 2017, with a focus on Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n
