(This message was added in version 6.7.0.) in /home/newark/public_html/main/wp-includes/functions.php on line 6121Thursday, October 12 through Sunday, October 15<\/strong> Join in the citywide arts festival Open Doors in the heart of the Ironbound!<\/p>\n Paint Like an Artist children’s program<\/strong> Butterfly Art Workshop with artist Patricia Reynolds<\/strong> Artists Talk and Reception with GlassBooks<\/strong> Van Buren Branch Library is the place to see and experience two one-of-a-kind art projects, both with a focus on immigrants and our community, plus a group art exhibit featuring local artists.<\/p>\n Look up in the Van Buren atrium to see the Butterfly Mobile Community Art Project<\/strong>, which features 1,000 individually-crafted butterflies to represent the community and the immigrant experience.<\/p>\n And be sure to visit Van Buren’s POP UP Galleries to see the latest the GlassBook Project \u2014 Brick by Brick: The Ironbound Oral History Collection<\/strong>.\u00a0 Created by artists-in-residence Paula Neves and Adrienne Wheeler in collaboration with Rutgers students, these artists’ books are made of glass, inspired by immigrant stories.<\/p>\n Also on view in the POP UP Galleries is an Open Doors<\/strong> exhibition featuring works by four amazing local artists.<\/p>\n A recent graduate of William Paterson University, Bianca Allen’s works are interpretations of how she views and processes the human body and nature.\u00a0 On view will be “Mother” (Elephant Head) and “Ying Yang” (Death of Roses).<\/p>\n Originally from Orange, New Jersey, Naeema Campbell’s art is an eclectic mix of Caribbean flair and tri-state attitude.\u00a0 A self-taught photographer with a captivating eye, she documents urban environments, natural landscapes, and candid moments, expressing her views about the natural and built environments.<\/p>\n Born in Lima, Peru, Juan Ramiro Torres has lived in the United States since 1984.\u00a0 A graduate of Parsons School of Design in New York, he has worked as an art director for several newspapers.\u00a0 He currently works as a fine artist, art teacher, graphic designer, and journalist.\u00a0 He has exhibited widely in the U.S., throughout the Americas, and in Europe.\u00a0 His worked was featured in the Newark Celebration 350 exhibit at City Hall last year.<\/p>\n Sue Ward has previously exhibited at Open Doors, and in galleries and art centers in New Jersey and New York.\u00a0 The series of mixed media on view stems from a complex concept and complex process. The end result is a simple visual of Love & Violence as it rests in an artificial landscape. Can we have one without the other – what is manufactured and what occurs naturally?
