Rutgers University\u2014Newark students taking the course Race, Ethnicity, Space and Place: Exclusion, Confinement and Transformation (RESPECT)<\/em> with Dr. Melissa Valle in the Department of African American and African Studies and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology were tasked with exploring the lives of Newark resident using three lenses: Exclusion, confinement and transformation. As part of this project, the students collected oral histories to document residents\u2019 experiences as they relate to racial and ethnic inequalities in housing and neighborhood development in the City of Newark. On May 2 these students will present their final group projects to the public at the Newark Public Library. The presentations will include a narrative, photographs, maps, and oral histories<\/p>\n
