Elizabeth R. Del Tufo served as the first Director of Cultural Affairs for the County of Essex; created an on-going concert series in the Essex County Parks, and was the driving force in the thriving Riker Hill Art Park.\u00a0 She founded The Newark Arts Council and served as its first director.\u00a0 Liz became the first Executive Director of the Newark Boys Chorus School.\u00a0 She was a founding member and later appointed the first chairwoman of the Newark Preservation and Landmarks Commission, a city-appointed position she held for 16 years.\u00a0 As a trustee and president of the Newark Preservation and Landmarks Committee, the nonprofit preservation organization, Liz has overseen the nomination of 70 buildings and five neighborhoods the National and State Registers of Historic Places.\u00a0 She has also established an ongoing Newark Tour program offered jointly by the committee and the Newark Museum, presenting up to 35 tours each year.\u00a0 She was awarded an honorary doctorate from the New Jersey Institute of Technology for her work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
