Mayor Ras J. Baraka invites you to celebrate the Mayor’s Book Club as part of the #NewarkReads program! High School to Adult Readers can also pick up their copy of the fall book club selection, Americanah<\/em>, by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.<\/p>\n

Free parking will be available at the Essex County Lot (Bears\/Eagles Stadium garage). Entrance on Bridge Street.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Beginning on Monday, June 17th
\n<\/strong>Books may be picked up at your local library branch!<\/p>\n
The Mayor\u2019s Book Club is the first initiative of #NewarkReads, a city-wide partnership to address literacy in Newark. In Summer 2019, there are two book selections at a 6-8 grade reading level. We encourage all who would like to be a part of the Mayor\u2019s Book Club to sign up here:\u00a0https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/#NewarkReads<\/a>. There will be a number of events surrounding the books being held at each of the library branches. There will also be a culminating event at end of the summer for all those who participated, please be sure to check back here for more information regarding all of these Mayor\u2019s Book Club events.<\/p>\n
This summer\u2019s book selections are I am Malala<\/em> (young readers edition) by Malala Yousafzai and The Crossover<\/em> by Kwame Alexander. Throughout the summer there will be events held at each of the branch libraries surrounding the summer books.<\/p>\n

The Summer Reading Challenge is a recreational literacy program for children ages 3 to 18.<\/p>\n
