Meet Edgardo Miranda-Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong>, creator and writer of the new superhero La Borinque\u00f1a<\/em>, for a talk about the making of his critically-acclaimed comic book series, followed by a comic book signing. Miranda-Rodr\u00edguez has been spotlighted by major media outlets from Telemundo to the New York Times<\/em> for the creation of this Afro-boricua heroine whose mission is to help the Puerto Rican community unite and fight for social justice. This Nuyorican artist uses his comic to raise awareness about Puerto Rico\u2019s human rights and economic issues. He is also a writer for Marvel Comics, and an independent publisher.<\/p>\n

The Encyclopedia of Newark Jazz<\/em> is Barbara Kukla\u2019s sixth book about the people of Newark and its rich history. Her previous books include Swing City: Newark Nightlife, 1925-50<\/em>, and America\u2019s Music: Jazz in Newark<\/em>.\u00a0 Kukla worked at The Star-Ledger<\/em> for 38 years, most of that time as editor of the popular \u201cNewark This Week\u201d section.<\/p>\n
Kukla\u2019s latest work includes more than 300 capsule biographies of Newark jazz musicians and singers and more than 400 photographs.<\/p>\n
