Join NJPAC Arts Education Teaching Artists Lara Gonzalez, Yael Shacham and Victor Burks as they explore the elements of music and movement using Orff Schulwerk, a multi-faceted pedagogy that focuses on essential elements of music, dance, art, and drama. The Orff Schulwerk, or simply the Orff Approach, is a developmental approach used in music education. It combines music, movement, drama, and speech into lessons that are similar to child’s world of play. It was developed by the German composer Carl Orff and colleague Gunild Keetman in 1920.
Orff fosters creativity, conveying musical knowledge, and cultivating musicianship through speech, singing, movement, body percussion, improvisation, and the playing of pitched (Orff xylophones, metallophones, recorders) and unpitched (drums, shakers, bells) instruments. NJPAC Teaching Artists will explore, create, improvise, and compose using this vast array of media to reach learners of all ages and abilities. Orff is perfect for all ages learning to become a musician.
