Club Zanzibar, located in Newark, New Jersey, opened on August 29, 1979, and quickly became a cornerstone of the house music scene. It was instrumental in developing the “Jersey Sound,” a subgenre of house music, thanks to influential DJs like Tony Humphries, Hippie Torrales, Gerald T, Larry Patterson and many more. Beyond its musical contributions, Zanzibar cultivated a vibrant community and culture, attracting a diverse and dedicated crowd and creating an inclusive space that celebrated the unity, creativity, and spirit of the house music movement.
