Banned Books Week 2020 – Books Behind Bars
Monday, September 28th | 7:00 PM
Tune in on Zoom – details below
Banned Books Week is an annual event in the last week of September highlighting issues of censorship, and emphasizing the freedom to read as a human right.
This year, Newark Public Library brings light to contemporary book bans and reading restrictions in prisons which impact thousands of people across New Jersey. With us is Cassandra Gatelein, the founder of the first and only books-to-prisoners program in New Jersey, Books Behind Bars. We will discuss how to send books to our incarcerated family, friends, and neighbors, and why this is an act of love and solidarity.
