Friends of the James Brown African American Room’s 7th Annual Kwanzaa Celebration!

JOIN US FOR the Friends of the James Brown African American Room’s 7th annual Kwanzaa Celebration!

This year’s theme will be the 7th day of Kwanzaa: Imani! (Faith).

This celebration will be held in-person and streamed live via Facebook LIVE.

The event will feature a candle lighting ceremony led by founder of the Friends of the James Brown African American Room and Newark Public Library Board of Trustees member Dr. Anasa Ma’at.

IMANI: To believe with all our hearts in our people and the righteousness and victory of our struggle. In the spirit of faith in our community, The Friends of the James Brown African American Room have invited special guests: Mayor Ras Baraka, Director of Public Safety Fritz Fragé, and Superintendent Roger Leon for a discussion on the state of our community.

This event is free and open to the public, all are welcomed.

The event will also feature a musical performance by Victor Daze.

Join us for a celebration of family, community, culture and creativity!

5-6pm Kwanzaa arts & crafts for kids and families in Centennial Hall (more details to come!)

6-7pm Kwanzaa program: Candle lighting ceremony and moderated panel discussion

7-8pm Music & refreshments
